Traditional Wedding Traditions to Kick to the Curb in 2023
I'm guessing if you clicked this blog, you aren't a traditional couple and you might want to venture outside of the "norm" for your wedding. Here are some traditions I say to leave behind in 2022 and out of 2023.
INVITING GUESTS YOU DON'T WANT TO INVITE
It is hard not to feel the pressure to invite everyone you know to your wedding. My rule is, if I haven't seen you in the last 3 years, and we haven't talked in the last 3 years, then I probably won't be inviting you to my wedding. You shouldn't feel pressured to invite people that aren't a part of your life on a somewhat regular basis.
BOUQUET AND GARTER TOSS
This is a tradition I could leave behind for good. As a wedding photographer and someone who has photographed over 100+ weddings in my career its always the same. An awkward match up that no one wants to do! I have seen in recent years just doing the tosses and not having the garter placed on the woman who catches the flowers. This I can get down with. You still have the fun of the flower catch without the awkward interaction afterwards!
MEANINGLESS FAVORS
Favors are a hard one. What do you give to your guests as a thank you? I can tell you I have enough key bottle openers and beer cozies for an army of people from all of the weddings I have attended as the photographer. Opt for a favor that everyone will love. I love food favors. Cookies are always a hit! You could even write personalized thank yous to each guests (obviously this is easier with a small wedding).
