The Boyds
The Royalton | Negril, Jamaica
Just when Michigan is at its coldest and crappiest weather, I was able to jet outta here and photograph Ryan and Amanda's wedding in Negril, Jamaica! Not only was the weather absolutely amazing but we had such a great trip! My fiance stood up in the wedding and it felt more like fun and less like work (not that weddings usually feel like work to me, I love my job, but when its for people you know there is something so special about it!).
I started the morning with Amanda while the girls got their hair and makeup ready. You could feel the excitement in her voice whenever she talked (Even though they were already technically married the previous Thursday in Michigan). This was different and exciting and fun. All the good happy feelings! One of my favorite memories during getting ready photos was little Leighton and how much she adores her now Uncle Ryan. They were the best of buds and she wanted to be right by his side while the guys got ready. I love the little moments like that. <3
Unfortunately we had some rain and a change of plans for the ceremony but even though we had to move where the ceremony was it still turned out absolutely perfect! It was cool and comfortable and there was a rainbow for a few moments as well. And they do say rain is good luck on your wedding day, I would guess having a rainbow is even better luck! My favorite part of the ceremony was just how smiley and happy Amanda was. You can just feel how much she adores Ryan and I think that is what everyone wants.
After the ceremony the rain stopped and the lighting was honestly PERFECT. I had been scoping out this beautiful rock wall the day before and I KNEW I had to have Ryan and Amanda stand on it for photos! The water was the perfect shade of blue and the skies had some gorgeous moody clouds. Honestly a photographers dream. What started off as a change of plans turned into something gorgeous!
After we finished our outdoor photos we headed in for dinner and dancing! I'm not sure I have ever seen this many people dance at a wedding! Even though this was a destination they had over 75 people come and almost all of them were on the dance floor. They got married on Bob Marleys birthday so of course you know they played his songs. I loved the DJ's lyric change. "Lets get together and drink red stripe!" Red stripe is Jamaicas beer (The only one served all weekend!)
I think my absolute favorite part of the night was after the reception wrapped up and 30 people went into the ocean fully dressed with the bride + groom. IT WAS SO FUN! You have to scroll to the bottom to see those gems! I think doing something different at your wedding that makes it special is a great idea and this was one of the coolest ideas I've been able to photograph yet!
