Brittni Marie's Family

December 6, 2018

A lot of people probably do not know my story. It's not crazy spectacular or anything but it's always nice to be honest about who I am. :)

I grew up on a small farm in Southeast Michigan. I'm one of those crazy people that has know what she wanted to do since she was 10 years old. I had a teacher who had us write letters to our future self and she sent them to us after we graduated high school. Firstly, no one will ever be allowed to read this letter because good Lord is it sooooo cringe-worthy but I distinctly wrote that I wanted to be a photographer. I didn't even realize it had gone back that far to be honest.

Flash forward to college. I went to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. (Class of '11). Believe it or not I did NOT plan on being a wedding or family photographer. In fact I laughed at my mom when she asked me if that was what I wanted to do. My dreams were simple. I was going to graduate college and travel the world taking documentary style photos and bringing awareness to conditions of people in other parts of our world. I wanted to do humanitarian work. I still very much dream of doing this but I have to be more strategic if I want to do it. I had my daughter the end of my 3rd year at CCS. Becoming a mom changed a lot for me. I had a  tiny human that needed me and I did my best to finish my degree but I didn't even do anything photography related until 2 years later. I started photographing friends kids and it kind of picked up from there. After I photographed my first wedding I truly loved it. I was actually shocked how much I loved it.

Now I photograph weddings most of my weekends (as well as some adorable kiddos). I love it. I still have that itch to travel and hope someday I get to pursue that dream but I am happy where I am too! I just know I have so much more to give. I want my daughter to follow in a life of giving in some way. It's so rewarding to do so.

Another fact about me is that I am a single mom. I know so many can relate to the struggles here. I don't mind it though. My daughter does not see her dad but I strive to ensure she has the best possible life that I can give her. It's not always easy, sometimes I find myself wondering if I am enough. If I do enough. If I provide enough. It is so important to me to give her a life of encouragement, love, stability, and compassion. I try to give 110% of my energy to reenforcing that she is so very loved and cared for. I am fortunate to have a loving family that helps and supports me each and every day.

Sorry to anyone reading my epic novel, I tend to get a little long winded. lol
